This I Believe

This I Believe I believe that happiness is obtained through optimism, gratitude, and a strong will. I believe in looking at things under a new light, not one of those dull manufactured bulbs. I believe that for any goal to be accomplished, you must first accept the fact that nothing will be handed to you on a silver platter. There won’t be any instructional booklet for life. You must write your own. Yet such a thing isn’t naturally known, and it must be searched for. One of the hardest things for humanity to get wrought is grief.

It’s that heavy feeling of sorrow that sits upon our chests that kills the passion of our hearts and makes even a simple errand seem like an impossible ask. That is the hardest feeling to overcome, and the hardest situation to ignore. Happiness may only be achieved through the acceptance of the things you cannot change; without this you are stuck in the past. Yet In order to truly accept these happenings, you must be grateful for what you already have, which requires optimism.

As Martha Washington said, “l am determined to be cheerful and happy In whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition. ” [Martha Washington]. The way I see It, If you believe that your life Is already wonderful, then It will be wonderful. People have more control over their lives than they might think, and all It takes to maintain such control Is gratitude, optimism, and a strong will.

Once you decide to appreciate your life, all you need Is the will to remember why. If you go around knowing that you’ve got many reasons to be happy, then you’ll become a happier person. It’s easy to get hung up over the wrong things In life, but I believe that In the right lighting, gratitude can push through and create room for the happiness and sense of peace that everyone Is seeking. I believe In the strong will that supplies the gratitude, and I believe that true happiness can be achieved. This I believe.
